A break away from the workplace at Christmas is welcome by most people, but time away from the office or workplace can add its own additional stresses into the mix.
A friend of mine hates the monotony of Christmas Day and even though he loves spending time with his young family, can’t wait to get back to the office on Boxing Day (even if just for a few hours).
Another friend of mine feels the stress of work piling up and whilst they love the Christmas period, there is an underlying feeling that they’re losing time or falling behind that haunts them throughout.
If you fall into either of the above two categories, or even if like me, you see this period as an opportunity to do something different whilst your clients take a break, then what about some casual upskilling?
Aside from family walks and getting some much needed rest (who doesn’t need that after 2020?! I’m learning new skills that aren’t accountancy related, but will certainly help me in business.
I’ve decided to put a few of these free and low cost resources here for you, so if you do find yourself wanting to invest a couple of hours in your personal or professional development this Christmas, you’ve got them all in one place.
Hubspot

Cost: Free
The Hubspot Academy is a library of free e-learning resources mainly focused around digital, marketing and sales skills. The easy to follow videos are massively insightful and understandable for most levels of competency. If you choose to take the test at the end of each course you can even get accreditations!
Udemy

Cost: £10+
Udemy is an open online course platform that allows users to create, share and participate in online course ranging from woodwork to ethical hacking. Whilst there are some low quality course on there, the rating system (just like on Amazon!) is a great way to see whether a course is worth its salt or not. Just look for courses in your area of interest with the highest number of purchases and the highest ratings! Course range from £10 into the hundreds…however be aware that the site uses cookies to track your visits and amend the cost; so it may be worthwhile revisiting in incognito mode on your browser!
LinkedIn Learning

Cost: Free
LinkedIn Learning is subsidiary of the social network LinkedIn, offering video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative, and business skills. Formerly ‘Lynda’, a separate e-learning platform, all of the courses fall into 3 categories: Business, Creative, and Technology. I highly recommend taking a look at some of the high quality course available.
