Exciting News…
Woodville joins National Practice!
Hello and welcome,
As we wrapped up 2025, I realised that not everyone in our wider community—clients, partners, and friends—was aware of an important update about our business. To make sure the news reaches everyone, I wanted to share it here on our website and social channels.
You can read the official press release here, and for convenience, we’ve included the full text at the bottom of this post in case you prefer not to accept cookies on their site.
Back in October 2025, we merged with Streets (www.streets.uk). This decision was made to bring a range of benefits to our clients and partners, which I’ll outline shortly. But before diving into what’s new, I want to start by reassuring you about what’s staying the same –
- I (Michael) am still here, for the long term (at least 11 years)
- The team are staying the same.
- We’re in our current office, but hoping to move to something a bit nicer in the next 4-5 months.
- Our phone number is staying the same, you’ll still call our office in Chorley – where we’re staying.
As I’m sure you can appreciate, this was a huge decision for our customers, the team, my family & I.
I wanted to make sure it was a net plus for everybody.
Serving you more
Going forward we have much better tax support. Some of our customers’ businesses are seeing high growth and they are looking at all sorts of tax planning opportunities – most of which we are very well equipped for. However, there are some things that we just don’t have experience in yet and now we have teams of people we can refer to and work with to make sure we’re looking after our customers as best we can. We now also have opportunities for inheritance tax (IHT) planning.
One of our customers has saved c. £40,000 on IHT and another has saved in excess of £10,000 on stamp duty land tax.
Our team will have access to better training opportunities. Jack & Charlie are just starting their ACCA, they’ll have opportunities to work at different offices for different parts of their exams. And, as part of a bigger group, our team will have far more opportunities to grow and develop a role with us and across the group. This should help us retain the team as we move forwards.
I will also have more support from things like legislation changes, growth and development of the practice and creating a better structure for the business and team.
Let me know any questions or thoughts you have. And if you want to book a call to run through anything with me, you can do so here.
Press Release
Woodville Accountancy, a well-known Chorley business, with deep roots in the local community, has joined with Streets, a top 40 UK accountancy and advisory practice.
The firm will now be known as Streets Woodville, and will continue to be headed up by Michael Godsmark, who founded the firm in 2012.
Having built the firm over more than a decade, Michael has recently taken the next step by joining Streets, giving his team and clients access to added expertise and services, while keeping a strong local focus.
However, Woodville Accountancy’s origin story is an interesting one, as Godsmark’s career nearly went on a very different path. Michael once DJ’d across the Northwest but swapped late-night club sets for ledgers and tax returns to build his own successful practice.
Michael Godsmark said: “After school I started an apprenticeship at a local accountancy practice and worked there from 2003 to 2007. However, my heart was elsewhere, I wanted to work in music. So, I bought a pair of decks and set off to become a DJ.”
For several years, Michael was a regular behind the decks in Preston, Liverpool and Manchester, playing local events for brands such as Hed Kandi and Miss Moneypenny’s and holding club nights across the Northwest.
When the recession hit around 2008, the late-night sector was badly affected, with clubs closing. So, Michael began taking on the club’s bookkeeping and accounts, a move that nudged him back towards the profession he had started out in.
While still DJing and producing music, Michael returned to practice, joining Turners, which later became Streets in Preston. He slowly built up his own client base, going on to set up his own practice Woodville Accountancy in April 2012.
Over the following years, Michael’s Chorley-based firm, Woodville Accountancy, grew steadily.
Today, the practice has a varied client base stretching well beyond Chorley. The firm works with businesses in construction and retail, several software and SaaS companies, and retailers.
Paul Tutin, Chairman and Managing Partner of Streets, said: “Woodville Accountancy is an established and trusted name in the local business community. We are proud to welcome them into the Streets family, and we look forward to working together to provide even greater support to businesses and individuals across the region.”
Michael said: “This announcement is meant to support and build on a trusted local business, not replace it.
“Becoming part of a bigger group is a fantastic growth opportunity for our practice, it allows us to improve the breadth and depth of the client services which we can offer, whilst still retaining a very much local presence.
“What I really want our clients to know is that I’m here to stay. I founded this firm, I’ll keep leading it, and I have no plans to leave.”
